About St. Tim’s

St.Timothy’s School  is a private school for girls that offers a rich and highly individualized program with superb resources in athletics, arts, clubs, world affairs and community service. At St. Tim’s we foster and develop the talents of each individual student. St. Tim’s offers  the International Baccalaureate Program and is an IB World School member.

Located in idyllic Stevenson, MD, students are able to experience many opportunities in New York City, Baltimore, and Washington, DC. The School’s easy access to these major metropolitan areas enables students to savor the cultural events in these cities. Trips to museums, the symphony, the ballet, jazz concerts, opera, art galleries, and a host of theatrical productions abound.

Traditions thrive at St. Timothy’s School. Current students love maintaining traditions that have been part of life at St. Tim’s for generations. The ringing of the bell outside of the dining hall after an athletic victory, classes serenading Sixes before graduation, the senior-only privilege of walking through the moongate outside of Carter House, the mid-year roommate switch — these and other traditions build solidarity and spirit that lasts a lifetime

Participation in athletics at St. Timothy’s School promotes healthy and positive habits that benefit young women throughout their lives. By engaging in athletics, students develop key values such as teamwork, discipline, resilience, sportsmanship, personal excellence, courage, humility, grace under pressure, and respect for others.

St. Timothy’s offers a wealth of opportunities for students to study and practice the arts. Artistic training teaches young women to become better problem solvers and to understand aesthetics, but most importantly, art teaches pure enjoyment — of the creative energy of others, of ourselves, and of life. The arts at St. Timothy’s—including dance, theater, music, and the visual arts—encourage artistic expression, communication, and aesthetic literacy.

As an Episcopal school, we celebrate the Eucharist twice a month.  Students are involved in all aspects of worship: offering meditations, singing in the choir, serving as acolytes, and reading lessons and prayers. Intellectual freedom and religious understanding define any vital and diverse academic community. We honor other faith traditions at St. Timothy’s. Quaker, Roman Catholic, Jewish, Muslim, Buddhist, and Hindu services are just some of the other services that are offered as a part of our weekly meetings together.

Our college counseling program encourages girls to start thinking early about their educational goals and provides highly personalized counseling for each student. Ensuring that each student has the best possible college options and that she finds a school meeting her own educational aspirations and expectations.

“The goal of St. Timothy’s is to create a living and learning community, where genuine intellectual, personal, and social growth takes place.  We aspire to nothing less than educating the next generation of leaders – our future senators, groundbreaking scientists, and accomplished poets.  We are a place committed to developing character – personal strength, integrity, kindness, cooperation, compassion, and how to leave the world a better place than you found it.  We do this by creating a nurturing community where girls feel free to spread their wings, where they can experiment, explore, and grow.”
